As the season begins to reach the closing stages, the race to the title is as tight as ever with any team in the top five feeling as if they are in with a shout. This week, we will be taking on Formz with our GW24 predictions. The North London artist has just released his single, ‘Keyboard Warriors‘, and will be headlining Manchester’s The Deaf Institute on 21st February and London’s O2 Academy Islington on March 14th.

Manchester City vs Everton

Manchester City’s hosting of Everton this Saturday lunchtime will be arriving at a somewhat unwelcoming time for Sean Dyche and his men. The return of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne from injury to make up a practically full-strength team can’t be welcoming news for the Merseyside team, yet as we know from the past, any Sean Dyche team is capable of an unexpected result.

Currently sat in 18th, 1 point inside of the relegation zone as a consequence of their 10 point deduction earlier this season, I expect Dyche to play a defensive game and look to counter. This game comes at huge importance for City too however, who have the opportunity to overtake Liverpool and Arsenal and move into the top spot of the league. They’ll pile the pressure on from early, no doubt.

Everton haven’t beaten City since January 2017, yet did manage a 1-1 draw at the latter end of 2022. They’ll be hoping to replicate that as best as possible, however with the City team shaping up how it is, I think they’ll be too much on the day.

Score Prediction : Manchester City 3-1 Everton

Formz Prediction: Manchester City 4-1 Everton

Fulham vs Bournemouth

Both of these sides look reasonably comfortable in mid table thanks to the work of managers Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola. The Cherries cruised to a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, but the addition of Armando Broja for the Cottagers could well level the playing field.

Bournemouth’s scintillating form during the festive period has cooled off slightly, but they will be looking at this fixture as a decent opportunity to pick up points. I expect an expansive game with goals at both ends, but with neither side having enough for 3 points.

Score prediction: Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth

Formz Prediction: Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth

Liverpool vs Burnley

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley fought back from a 2 goal deficit last week to come away with a point against Fulham. They will need every bit of that resilience if they are to have any chance of avoiding the drop, but a trip to Anfield this weekend may be a bridge too far.

Since the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure, there was a feeling of inevitability about Liverpool that was quickly undermined by their performance against Arsenal. This fixture however should see them get back to winning ways as their home form will be critical for their title chances especially with a visit from Manchester City on the horizon. This one feels like a routine win for the Reds.

Score Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Burnley

Formz Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Burnley – “Liverpool are still stinging from Arsenal. I just feel like it’s about time a lower table team got a result at Anfield.”

Luton vs Sheffield United

We are into the ‘6 pointer’ stage of the season and these two sides will treat this game as such. Sheffield United will be looking to put last week’s abject display against Villa behind them and will be hoping that Ben Brereton Diaz can continue his impressive start for the Blades.

Luton meanwhile have been looking a lot more like a Premier League side in recent weeks. Ross Barkley has been sensational in midfield and their physicality all over the pitch makes them a tough team for anyone to come up against. Kenilworth Road gives the Hatters a nice home advantage which I think Will give them just enough in this one.

Score Prediction: Luton 2-1 Sheffield United

Formz Prediction: Luton 2-0 Sheffield United

Tottenham vs Brighton

Tottenham host a gifted Brighton side this Saturday afternoon, the reverse fixture of Brighton’s recent 4-2 win over the London side at the Amex.

Although going in as major underdogs according to the bookies, Brighton in recent seasons have been proven to get a result when it matters. With players such as Ansu Fati returning from injury and Joao Pedro in electric form, I can see Brighton providing an away win against the grain in this fixture. That being said, Tottenham will be looking to chase the top four spots, so every game will feel like a cup final over the next few months, and the re addition of James Maddison back from injury will certainly help that.

I can see this game being very close, but I’m opting for a narrow Brighton win away from home, with a refined prediction of Joao Pedro getting what will be the winning goal.

Score Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Brighton

Formz Prediction: Tottenham 4-1 Brighton – “Spurs should be back to full strength so there’s literally no excuses.”

Wolves vs Brentford

If you didn’t check you’d never think Brentford were teetering around the relegation zone. Perhaps foolishly many still have a perception of Brentford based on their exploits of last season. They are not the same team and the results are showing that. While they remain  relatively competitive in most matches they don’t have the defensive fortitude that has been a crucial part of their identity as a premier league club.

Wolves have really turned what could’ve been a depressing season around and have become one of the league’s chief entertainers. Gary O’Neil’s men play exciting football and are comfortably a top 10 team. Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto lead the Wolves line so well and will look to cause havoc on the counter against Brentford. The London side however will always have a chance with talisman Ivan Toney available and I envision a fairly balanced game.

Score Prediction: Wolves 2-2 Brentford

Formz Prediction: Wolves 1-0 Brentford

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle

Saturday’s evening kick off, Newcastle visit Nottingham for a clash which I’m finding very hard to predict personally.

Both teams have presented themselves as inconsistent over the past few months, and Forest’s games tend to be very tight knit and closely contested. Newcastle obviously enter the game as favourites but away from home I don’t think it’s out of the question to write off Forest for this one. If they can be clinical, I definitely think they can snatch all three points here, however, based on recent performances I’m going to predict a 1-2 Newcastle win for this game.

A win for Newcastle would see them enter 7th place, and Forest have played midweek so fatigue might factor in. That being said, Forest are a persistent side, so a draw could be a highly likely possibility as well.

Score Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Newcastle

Formz Prediction: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle

West Ham vs Arsenal

West Ham are in a horrid bit of form, failing to register a single win this calendar year. Low in numbers in attack the January transfer window must have felt like a major slap in the face to Hammers fans. Not only did they fail to bring anyone in but they let two attackers exit. Whether hubris or incompetence, that decision was immediately felt against United last week where David Moyes’s side seriously lacked cutting edge.

Arsenal are coming off the back of their biggest performance of the season and know the importance of keeping up that momentum. There is also an added edge to the game with the London Stadium serving as one of the stages that saw Arsenal’s title hopes die last season. No doubt Mikel Arteta and his players will be looking for some retrospective redemption. When a team hasn’t won in a long time there’s always the fear that of course your team will be the one to get them back on track. But honestly speaking it will be a big surprise if Arsenal don’t win this game. A big defeat could see the London Stadium turn into a viper’s pit for Moyes but I think Arsenal will go about it diplomatically.

Score Prediction: West Ham 0-2 Arsenal

Formz Prediction: West Ham 0-0 Arsenal – “Arsenal need humbling.”

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

A cynic would say the Villa renaissance under Unai Emery is over and while the seeds of an eventual collapse are starting to sprout it’s not quite yet that time. Villa have been excellent for most of the season but have hit a rocky patch of form. Their first loss at home in yonks was followed by a 5-0 victory at Sheffield United which they failed to back up after a 3-1 loss to Chelsea midweek. Villa’s biggest strength is also their biggest weakness. Their aggressive high line allows them to keep teams penned in but also leaves them particularly vulnerable at the back if you beat their press.

United are equipped with the right tools to exploit this and coincidently have also started to pick up some form. Rasmus Hojlund is starting to emerge after a tough start to life in Manchester and will be looking at that Villa backline with gleaming eyes. As well as Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford. I expect a goal fest but oddly enough fancy United to do the business.

Score Prediction: Aston Villa 2-4 Manchester United

Formz Prediction: Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester United

Jesse Williams

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

If Chelsea didn’t have a midweek fixture, the outlook for this game would have been very bleak. The Blues were outclassed by Wolves last weekend but managed to put some things right by dispatching Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

For Palace on the other hand, there is very little optimism around Selhurst Park with many calling for the Roy Hodgson era to come to an end. Struggling defensively and too reliant on Eze and Olise going forward, the Eagles need to make sure they don’t get dragged in to a relegation battle. Having said this, there are only 7 points between the two teams and Palace do have home advantage, but I think Chelsea will come away with a victory here.

Score Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-3 Chelsea

Formz Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Chelsea
