Prominent Black and Asian figures will finally feature on British currency!

It has been announced that plans for ethnic minority figures to be included on British currency have been submitted for the first time; with Gurkha heroes and a Jamaican wartime nurse amongst those up for consideration.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has taken on board proposals by campaigners who have been wanting to see influential figures from BAME backgrounds featured on a set of coins.

Reportedly, plans have been submitted and have been encouraged by the Treasury however they are still waiting for a firm response, so drafts and designs can be put in motion.

The chancellor has said: ‘As a British Asian of course I know that racism exists in this country. And I know people are angry and frustrated. They want to see, and feel, change.’
