Singer R Kelly has been sentenced to 30
years in prison, following a conviction in
federal court last year on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

Kelly was convicted in September on one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits taking minors across state lines for criminal sexual activity.

At today’s hearing in New York he faced seven of his victims in court who gave victim impact statements recounting their
experiences with the singer.

Prosecutors called for him to receive
more than 25 years behind bars in order to
“protect the public”.

He faces separate criminal charges in three other cases.
