Brixton based charity Raw Material have been shortlisted for the Charity Awards, the most prestigious award scheme in the sector. Raw Material have been recognised in the Education for the Arts, Culture & Heritage category, with the awards set to take place on the 7th June.

The charity has received praise for its ‘Raw Sounds’ programme, which allows those suffering with mental health conditions to attend music making courses, ranging from Digital Audio Production to spoken word classes. The initiative is partnered with NHS South London and the Maudsley Trust and has been in place since 2012.

Speaking of Raw Material, the Charity Awards judges stated:

“They’re incredibly focused on […] their community and they stand out in the charity sector for their level of diversity. […] They are really loved locally.”

Rachel Nelken, CEO of Raw Material, added:

“The nomination comes at a very significant time for us, as we prepare to upscale our premises and expand our programme and offer for our community.
We are very grateful to Civil Society, and honoured to be included alongside so many outstanding charities.”

With Raw Material continuing to grow in order to help more people in South London, their recognition by the panel of judges is well deserved thanks to their ongoing work surrounding music and mental health within the community.
