US songstress Selena Gomez has joined Benin City trailblazer Rema on one of the biggest Afrorave songs of 2022, ‘Calm Down’. After clips surfaced of the pair together during Rema’s US tour, the internet exploded with rumours with Rema finally confirming the incoming collaboration earlier this week. Both huge fans of each other’s work, Selena’s verse slots perfectly into the song as the two have a playful back and forth filled with romantic harmonies and undeniable chemistry. The infectious original has already achieved so much becoming Rema’s most popular and streamed song to date racking up close to 100 million streams on Spotify and over 1.3 million on TikTok alone.
Forever the trendsetter, Rema’s army of ravers around the world are growing at a rapid rate and this year he celebrated the release of his debut album, ‘Rave & Roses’, a critically acclaimed project boasting features with; Chris Brown, 6LACK, AJ Tracey & Yseult. Now deep into his Rave & Roses US tour, the 22-year-old star is heading to Europe next month for the EU leg of the tour with a stop-off in London for his debut UK Headline show at O2 Brixton Academy on 18th September. Rema made his mark on the UK festival circuit this summer and was named “the vocal highlight” at this year’s Wireless Festival by The Guardian where he was joined by the Virgil Abloh co-signed artist Slawn who created art live on stage.
Already a pop star in his own right, since his inception Rema came in and completely switched up the game and rapidly became one of the biggest and most internationally known names in the new wave of Afrobeats stars. From his recent collaborations with Placesplusfaces to his A-List fanbase, there is no predicting what he might do next.
