Over a year since the PlayStation 5 launched the seemingly never ending supply issues has forced Sony to think of a new solution – producing more PlayStation 4 consoles.

Sony had originally planned to discontinue production of the PS4 late last year, but the lack of chips required for PS5 production coupled with PS4’s components being more readily available, and less expensive for both Sony to make and for customers to purchase has lead to the change in strategy, according to Bloomberg.

Increasing production orders for the PS4 will give Sony more leeway when negotiating with manufacturing partners for a better deal, Bloomberg also suggested by way of an anonymous source.
