Home secretary Suella Braverman has been sacked in the latest cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Braverman’s dismissal follows her statement about the pro-Palestinian protests, branding it a “hate march” and accusing the police of being biased and taking a tougher line against rightwing protests.

Tory HQ said Sunak was undertaking a reshuffle to “strengthen his team in Government to deliver long-term decisions for a brighter future”.

Critics from both the government and opposition labelled her words as “offensive” and “inflammatory” helping to undermine the operational independence of and public confidence in the police.

She doubled down on the comments on Sunday night, saying the streets of Britain were being “polluted by hate, violence, and antisemitism”.

In a statement released after her sacking, she said: “It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve as Home Secretary. I will have more to say in due course.”

This is the second time Braverman has lost the job of Home Secretary having previously resigned from the role for breaking ministerial code under Liz Truss.
