The UK Earns The Title Of Second Most Miserable Country On Earth
9 Mar 2024
The UK has been crowned the second most miserable country on earth, only beaten by the central Asian country of Uzbekistan.
Brits placed 70th out of 71 for overall mental wellbeing, giving us an average score of 49 compared to 65 globally.
Data was collected via the Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) assessment, with scores ranging from -100 to 200.
Scores under zero represent “distressed or struggling”, between zero and 50 meant “enduring” while between 50 and 100 meant “managing” and scores between 100 and 200 meant “succeeding or thriving”.
The findings, by US-based Sapien Labs, will not come as a surprise to many who are still dealing with the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
The report also claims that there has been a general global decline in mental wellbeing, saying that the past few years have seen “no sign of recovery”.
