The video-sharing app was meant to banned in the in the US this Thursday and would have seen itself removed from app stores. Fortunately for ByteDance it’s app was thrown a lifeline when the US Commerce Department halted its removal.

The Commerce Department said the ban was delayed “pending further legal developments,”.

With 100 million users in the US, TikTok’s popularity saw President Donald Trump call for it to be sold to an American company earlier in the Year.

The President and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have claimed the app could be utilised by the Chinese Government to mine the data of US citizens. The idea was also floated around in the UK but didn’t gain any serious momentum.

The Chinese app is already banned in India but that was due to a diplomatic fallout between the two nations.
