Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan The Stallion.
The Canadian rapper, 31, real name Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of three felony charges including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, by a jury in December.
Lanez shot the Grammy winner, real name Megan Pete, following a party at reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home July 12, 2020 injuring his fellow artist in the foot.
Lanez who faced possible deportation to Canada said: “If I could change it, I would but I can’t. Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility,”
“I truly am just trying to be a better person,” he added.
Matthew Barhoma, a member of Lanez’s legal team, said they will be filing appeals for both the sentence and conviction.
Megan Thee Stallion testified in court on Monday on how she has struggled post the shooting.
“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she said in a written statement that was read in court.
“Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
