UFC Star Conor McGregor Announces His Plan To Run For Irish President
21 Mar 2025
UFC fighter Conor McGregor has declared his intention to run in the upcoming presidential election.
The announcement comes just three days after former US President Donald Trump branded the controversial fighter his “favourite Irishman” during their meeting in the Oval Office.
However, in order to run in the election a candidate must be nominated by 20 members of the Oireachtas or four local authorities in order to make a bid for Áras an Uachtaráin, which is a criteria Mr McGregor is unlikely to meet.
In a recent social media post, Mr McGregor asked “who else will stand up to Government” and oppose the implementation of the EU Migration Pact, which would establish a common asylum system at a European level.
McGregor claimed that he would “put forth this bill to referendum” if he became president.
“This is the future of Ireland with me as President. All citizens of Ireland to have a voice and a choice on their future!” he said.
