Woman Arrested After Throwing Boyfriend’s Mother’s Ashes Into Lake

A woman has been charged with abuse of a corpse after throwing her boyfriend’s mother’s ashes into a lake.
40-year-old, Augustine Gladney from Fort Worth could face a year in prison and a fine of up to $4,000 for discarding 38-year-old Ernest Smith’s mother’s ashes.
Smith told police that on June 3, 2020, that he returned to the home that he and then partner Gladney shared to find that his mother’s urn was missing.
He told police he overheard a phone conversation between his girlfriend and her daughter in which the suspect said she’d thrown the urn into a lake, a Class A misdemeanour.
Later that evening Gladney sent him a text admitting to taking his mother’s ashes, the green urn with butterfly patterns they were kept and throwing them into Lake Worth, according to the report.
According to police, Gladney was charged with abuse of a corpse on Wednesday.
