Covid has been running rampant in the UK for around a year now, but that hasn’t stopped some from enjoying themselves. The last few weeks have been the worst in terms of cases in the UK and it seems the government is ready to use harsher measures to curb the growth. At the start of the year we reported that the UK had recorded 57,725 new covid cases in a day. That number was comfotbaly surpassed and led to the government closing all travel corridors for the first time since the pandemic started. Home Secretary Priti Patel today announced that there would be “a new £800 fine for those attending house parties”.

Previously the burden was placed on the organisers of parties, who could be fined as much as £10,000 but now the emphasis is clearly on the individual attendees. We’ll all be watching to see if this £800 fine is effective enough to stop party goers and help bring down the numbers.
