Nigerian sensation Asake has often been lauded for his uncompromising approach to his sound and it was heartening to see that he feels the same way about his live shows putting on a remarkable performance at London’s iconic O2 Arena on Saturday night. True to that sentiment the London leg of his ‘Lungu Boy World Tour’ was a high-octane blend of Afrobeats, surreal visuals, and surprise guests.

Asake kicked off the night with a jaw-dropping entrance, immediately setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. Flexing his showmanship, he made a spectacular aerial entrance, suspended above the stage on a podium he made his descent performing “Start” while being introduced by the one and only Idris Elba.

However as he descended onto the stage, twirling a crimson coloured baseball bat, you couldn’t help but see some slight indignation on his face. Speculation swirled that Asake had been ready to go on some time before he finally actually hit the stage and maybe that frustration had spilt over. Nonetheless any sign of that dissipated quickly as he delivered a show filled with energy, charisma, and the kind of creativity that confirms his place as one of the brightest stars of contemporary African music.

Asake infused the show with unexpected elements, reaffirming that this was not solely a show but a spectacle. Midway through his performance of his ode to his new found love of skateboarding, ‘Skating’, skateboarders zoomed across the stage In a particularly heartwarming moment, Asake even gave away a custom skateboard to a lucky fan in the crowd.

Asake elevated the night by bringing out two of the biggest names in the music world—Wizkid and Stormzy. The surprise appearances took the already charged atmosphere to an entirely new level.

First came British rap titan Stormzy, who’s emergence sent the O2 crowd into a frenzy. Shortly after Wizkid joined Asake on stage, which saw the arena come alive with an explosion of sound and light. The chemistry between the two Nigerian artists as they performed their track ‘MMS’ was palpable. It felt like a true celebration of Afrobeats’ growing global influence with two of it’s most powerful players embracing each other on the world stage.

Asake’s talents weren’t confined to just singing and performing with other stars. In an impressive display of versatility, the artist took a moment during the show to DJ for himself. He hopped behind the decks and mixed some of his own tracks. A fun and spontaneous break in the set, adding an intimate touch as he played what felt like a personal soundtrack to his success.

As the show neared its climax, Asake pulled off yet another jaw-dropping moment. With a Superman-like aura, he was once again lifted above the stage, flying over the audience as he sang his banger ‘Active’. Even after a two-hour-long performance, his energy was limitless finding time to drop down and complete some press-ups, as the crowd roared.

Asake’s show at the O2 Arena was a celebration of music, creativity, and culture. It was more than just a concert—it was an experience designed to engage the audience on multiple levels. From his aerial stunts to bringing out musical giants like Wizkid and Stormzy, Asake demonstrated why he’s one of the most exciting artists of his generation. Whether it’s for his DJing, gifting skateboards, dance routines or performing press-ups, The O2 Arena won’t soon forget the night Asake made history.
