Bursting onto the scene in 2016, Temz is creating a sound he brands as ‘stylish drill’. Using sample-led drill, he has been touching all points of the UK and has landed on Next Up? as his next destination. Emerging from Leeds, Temz has collected over 3 million streams and 121k monthly listeners, we caught up with the rapper as he makes his Next Up? debut…

Describe your Next Up? in one sentence.

Sauce & Substance.

You describe your sound as ‘stylish drill’ what does that mean?

It essentially means flexing the finer things in life on drill-infused 808s, just imagine Rick Ross on drill for a better image.

You started taking music seriously after some guys from your area started dropping freestyles, who did you take in during that time?

Nobody in particular to be completely honest I’ve always been tapped in with the whole UK scene in general especially back then. I was mainly listening to J Hus & Mostack at that period in time though.

Since starting out what has been your favourite moment?

For me it was definitely performing at Leeds Festival, it almost felt as if things had come full circle for me. Coming from where I’m from things like that don’t seem achievable sometimes so that feeling was indescribable!

What’s next up for Temz?

I’ve got a serious project on the way to the end the year. Keep your eyes and ears out for it as it’s definitely going to be one to remember.
