Underground rapper Serious Klein taps in Shaun Sky on his latest single ‘Heavy’. Using his signature, heavily stylized sound, we get a moody trap beat to match the title.
Serious spits the hook: “hoe it’s getting spooky cause it’s heavy in this bitch” with an ease that somehow contrasts with, yet also enforces, the aesthetic of the instrumental.
The aloofness continues as he spits his verses, riding the beat with such natural fluency that it feels like he is merely hitching a ride on it. His ease persists even though the beat switches at a mind-bending moment around halfway-through the track.
Shaun Sky aka ‘THE PILOT’ intersperses Serious’ verses with some ominous, earth-shaking spoken word. ‘Heavy’ drops alongside a sharp video making use of brutalist and industrial architecture that mirrors the soundworld of the track.
Having been signed to Nas’ label Mass Appeal in 2024, ‘Heavy’ prophesizes a longer project from Serious Klein, the likes of which we have not seen since 2018’s ‘You Should’ve Known’.
