London’s Financial district has seen a lot of its office spaces abandoned, with companies forced to make employees work from home. But up until recently those “empty” offices were being put to good use, serving as the perfect cover for an indoor cannabis farm.

The City of London Police said 826 cannabis plants were found in a building near the Bank of England. The police said there were reports of a “strong smell of cannabis”, which led to the raid.

“This is the first cannabis factory in the City, no doubt being set up in response to fewer people being out and about during the pandemic who might have noticed any unusual activity,” the police said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for the City of London said the force policing the district don’t usually deal with drugs bust and are much more accustomed to economic crimes such as fraud

The police also confirmed that two people had been arrested in the continuing investigations. British weed lovers already suffered bad news earlier this year when we reported that Amsterdam might be banning tourist from their weed cafes.
